I like what was said, about intercourse started the marriage.. The point being, did 'fornication' mean the same thing then as now? It came from harlotry..which could mean illicit sex. In those days, when the couple got engaged, they were the same as married. So, again, would the couple be in the wrong if they had intercourse before marriage, if they were engaged? What about petting?

So, why is sex a sin?

why when someone is talking about morality, do they really mean sexual activities, and not lying, cheating, child abuse, wife beating, bad tempers, being a horrible person, murder, generally bad behaviour.. those other things, i would say are more immoral.. but, sex, why is it a sin?
if two people are in love, have no other ties, want to be together, why is that a sin?

Deuteronomy 22:28-29) 28 "In case a man finds a girl, a virgin who has not been engaged, and he actually seizes her and lies down with her, and they have been found out, 29 the man who lay down with her must also give the girl’s father fifty silver shekels, and she will become his wife due to the fact that he humiliated her. He will not be allowed to divorce her all his days.
The point being, God did not forbid sex before marriage, or human frailty there of, but had them marry. This would be a protection to the children or the reputation of the ones involved. God is asking them to be responsible for their actions.. not saying the action was bad.. Jesus didn't say anything about sex before marriage.. and the word, fornication, pornia (in Greek) comes from the word for a prostitute or a harlot.. meaning illicit sex.. But a man and a woman who are planning on marrying may not be considered fornication.. Meanings change after 2,000 years.

I got this out of my Strong's Exhaustive :
pornia in the ancient greek : harlotry (includ. adultry and incest) idolatry =fornication
porneuo: to act the harlot (lit.) indulge unlawful lust of either sex, or practise idolatry...commit fornication
I don't think fornication is idolatry in itself.. But excessive sex is like porn.
God nor Jesus said anything about getting married before having sex.
But here in Ex. 22:16, 17 Deut. 22:28, 29 It says (under the law) if a man had intercourse with a woman, who was not engaged, he was required to marry the girl and to pay her father the purchase price for the bride and could not divorce her all his days. Even if her father refused to give him the girl in marriage, the man had to pay the purchase price to the father.
So I'm getting the idea, that sex with engaged couples on occasion, would be okay? What do you think.??

7. reject materialism, unclean entertainment, over drinking and eating, and internet chat rooms which would put us in association with the world.
Goal = To remain set apart from the world

Hi Bl Swan.... Don't know what to think.. Some people in my life seem to be a spirit from the past from another person... They seem to take on their spirit. It's like the other person didn't actually die but lives in the other person. But that seems to be possibly not scriptural..

My District Convention Last Weekend

several years ago we were holding our dc in the astrodome, the whole district on one weekend.
